Virtualization
Better and more efficient use and utilization of your IT resources
Table of contents
In the age of digital transformation, virtualization solutions are an integral part of enterprise IT. Existing hardware systems are often utilized only to a small degree. In this case, it is advantageous to use the free capacity elsewhere, for example by making it available to other users or running additional systems in parallel.
Core challenges of enterprise virtualization
Strategic and organizational tensions
Many IT organizations operate virtualization without a clear vision: Which workloads belong on-premises, which in the cloud, and which remain unchanged for now? Without governance, standards, and defined responsibilities, siloed solutions, redundant tools, and inefficient handovers between infrastructure, application, and security teams arise. The shortage of skilled workers exacerbates the pressure: Operations run, but further development stalls.
Additional challenges and pain points:
- Vendor and platform diversity increase technical complexity and heterogeneity
- Choosing the right operating models and making architectural decisions
- Under- and over-provisioning are inadequately measured or forecasted
Platform-neutral virtualization
Discover virtualization with a consolidated architecture for servers, storage, networking, desktops, and applications
We consolidate your workloads onto a clearly designed virtualization architecture that aligns with your goals—delivering measurable efficiency, stable SLAs, and security-by-design. Depending on the use case, we rely on VMware vSphere/Cloud Foundation for mature enterprise workloads and high density, on Microsoft Hyper-V or Windows Server/Azure Stack HCI for seamless Windows integration and hybrid scenarios, or on Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (on Citrix Hypervisor or existing virtualization) for secure, high-performance EUC/VDI use cases. Result: higher utilization, faster deployment, lower operating costs, and a future-proof foundation for on-premises and hybrid environments.
Virtualization with VMware
Enterprise virtualization for maximum utilization
VMware provides you with reliable and secure virtualization platforms. Whether virtualizing servers, storage, or networks—VMware offers a suitable solution for every area.
The foundation of the platform is VMware vSphere, one of the world's leading platforms for workload virtualization. vSphere provides the computing resources of the data center in the form of virtual machines and at the same time enables the operation of modern container-based applications. Through integration into VMware Cloud Foundation, vSphere becomes part of a fully automated cloud stack – including lifecycle management, monitoring, and capacity planning.
Benefits of vSphere
- High stability and performance
- Flexible workload placement
- Support for modern applications
- Unified infrastructure management
- High scalability
With VMware vSAN, storage becomes a software-defined resource. Instead of operating separate storage systems, vSAN uses local drives of the servers and combines them into a highly available and powerful storage pool. This creates a Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) in which compute and storage are operated on the same platform.
Benefits of vSAN
- Reduced infrastructure complexity
- Scalable storage without separate storage systems
- No separate Fibre Channel infrastructure
- High performance through local drives
- Noticeably less maintenance effort through unified and integrated management
- Simplified lifecycle management
VMware NSX virtualizes the entire data center network. Network functions such as routing, switching, firewall, or load balancing are provided entirely on a software basis. This makes it possible to define, automate, and secure networks independently of the physical infrastructure. A particular advantage is the ability to perform microsegmentation, with vDefend allowing security policies to be implemented directly at the application level.
Benefits of NSX with vDefend
- Software-defined networking
- Microsegmentation for enhanced security
- Zero-trust architecture
- Automated network provisioning
- Consistent networking across data centers and clouds
An essential component of VMware Cloud Foundation is integrated lifecycle management.
The platform automates:
- Infrastructure installation
- Updates and patches
- Configuration management
- Monitoring and capacity planning
Through this automation, administrative effort is significantly reduced and IT can focus more strongly on applications and business requirements.
Broadcom Knights
Your project in the best hands worldwide
Broadcom Knight status is the highest level of certification and recognition that Broadcom awards to individuals within its partner ecosystem: it is invitation-only, following personal nomination by Broadcom’s global enablement team. Only a few hundred specialists worldwide hold this status. At Medialine, several of our experts hold this status. For your VCF projects, this means: access to knowledge that comes directly from the Broadcom product team, including early insights into new versions and a direct line to Broadcom’s own experts. Plus, project experience gained in real-world environments—not just in the training room.
Virtualization with Microsoft
Hyper-V based on Windows Server and Azure Local
Microsoft’s virtualization portfolio offers two mature platforms that complement—rather than exclude—one another, depending on requirements. The Hyper-V role in Windows Server is the proven choice for classic VM workloads: stable, widely used, and ideal for environments that rely on a lean, cost-efficient infrastructure. Azure Local goes a step further and is aimed at organizations that require tight integration with Azure services, want to modernize applications with Kubernetes, or wish to run AI workloads on-premises—with Azure management. Both platforms can be introduced incrementally, and existing Hyper-V or VMware environments can be migrated along clear migration paths with minimal disruption. The result is a flexible, future-proof infrastructure with higher reliability, faster deployment, and transparent cost structures.
Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops Virtualization Platform
The robust foundation for modern application and desktop virtualization
With Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, you can rely on a powerful platform for the centralized delivery of applications and virtual desktops. The solution helps you flexibly provision workstations, simplify access to business-critical applications, and reliably serve users regardless of device or location. Features for centralized management, policy-based control, and a high-performance user experience help reduce administrative overhead while increasing security, scalability, and efficiency in IT.
