VMware has been regarded as a pioneer and technology leader in server virtualization for more than two decades. Worldwide, enterprises, government agencies, and data center operators rely on VMware technologies when it comes to stability, reliability, and long-term investment security. Hardly any other platform has shaped the development of modern data centers in such a way – and at the same time achieved comparable maturity and operational reliability. With virtualization solutions from VMware, data center resources can be provisioned flexibly and utilized efficiently.

Instead of operating a separate physical server for each application, multiple operating systems and applications can run in parallel on shared infrastructure. Available resources such as CPU, memory, and storage are dynamically distributed – exactly in the extent they are actually needed. The result is significantly better utilization of existing hardware, lower operating costs, and greater flexibility in provisioning new systems.

Instead of classic 3-tier architecture

Traditional data centers often rely on a 3-tier architecture consisting of separate components for servers, storage, and networking. This structure is powerful, but it also brings complexity: different management systems, time-consuming coordination between teams, and often manual processes.

VMware Cloud Foundation takes a different approach: the Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC). All infrastructure components are abstracted by software and centrally controlled. The result is an infrastructure that can be deployed faster, operated more easily, and scaled more flexibly.

Compute virtualization with vSphere Enterprise Plus

The foundation of the platform is VMware vSphere, one of the world's leading platforms for workload virtualization. vSphere provides the computing resources of the data center in the form of virtual machines and at the same time enables the operation of modern container-based applications. Through integration into VMware Cloud Foundation, vSphere becomes part of a fully automated cloud stack – including lifecycle management, monitoring, and capacity planning.

Storage virtualization with vSAN

With VMware vSAN, storage becomes a software-defined resource. Instead of operating separate storage systems, vSAN uses local drives of the servers and combines them into a highly available and powerful storage pool. This creates a Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) in which compute and storage are operated on the same platform.

Network and security virtualization with NSX

A particular advantage is the ability to perform microsegmentation, with vDefend allowing security policies to be implemented directly at the application level.
