Rumor is: Fox-6 news director leaving for Tampa. Been in B'ham for 25 years or so. Former Fox-6 and NBC-13 anchors returning for NBC morning show.
Whew!

You forgot that NBC13 is building a 50 ft huge neon peacock which will be perched over the city, ready to pounce and devour it at any moment.
Seriously, a few FOX 6 folks are getting nervous with the announcement of a sale. It will be interesting to see how that plays out. I heard the assistant ND is already gone, but that is not confirmed.
For NBC13, I'm sure they will re-do the entire place, set, graphics, etc. It's a last place station that needs some help, and with Media General the above is their standard operating procedure.

Wow...sounds like 6's ND is getting out while the getting is good...
Lots of work needs to be done at 13. Maybe Media General will be up to the challenge... Speaking of 13, how is their new ND working out?

Yup. Mike is a good guy and will be missed.
He has been made VP/News for WTVT, the Fox O&O in Tampa.

Hey chickie...any chance your asst. ND would cross the mountain? After several interviews, and no offers, he should be ready for something!

Whew!
I heard about 6's ND leaving for Tampa. Did that person leave on their own, or did Fox move them before the sell to keep them in the company?
Who is coming to the 13 morning show? My guess on the former Fox anchor would be Andrea Lindenburg, unless Art Franklin is getting back in the game. Is Gina Redmond leaving 13, or moving to a new time?
13 is in trouble though. Their numbers have tanked since MG took over, while CBS42 (formerly owned by MG) has seen an upswing.
I don't see Fox6 being in huge trouble because of the sale. They are a cash cow and have been for a long time. Of course there are some worries, but it will take a lot to mess that up.
I don't ever watch 33/40 and only know an extremely small handful of people there so I have no clue what's up with them.
I do know that overall, the Bham market was down in the May book.

Lindenberg coming to NBC, along with Rod Carter. Don't remember him though. Redmond and Royer are the nightside anchor team. Lots of talk about Franklin, but don't know anything concrete. Also lots of reporting changes at 13.

13's numbers were in the tank before MG bought them. The changes that have been made were coming, and more changes are needed before they can be a legitimate threat to 6 and 33/40.

We get Mr. McClain at Fox 13 and you get Rod Carter at NBC 13. Seems you're owed a player to be named later.

Art's still in the game... at WAGA in Atlanta.
I don't think the rumors about his return to Birmingham will come to fruition.
I'm wondering if Trevor Pettiford's landed anywhere after leaving 13... [ July 12, 2007, 01:41 PM: Message edited by: RollTide98 ]

The rumors of Fox 6 being sold have been around awhile. Seems like every year the topic comes up. I'll believe it when I see it.

With the ND leaving, it's just the start of the fallout. Wait and see. The sale will soon follow.

Let's see what happens to DL... or the Sales Manager.. That's usually a good indicator of movement.
Those types seem to bail just pryor to that type of major change.
That's the way things go... in my experience anyway... the trenchers that make the place run will survive... but their benifits always get reduced...

It's not rumor. News Corp. itself announced that the stations are up for sale last month:
Mediaweek: News Corp. to sell nine TV stations
Hollywood Reporter: News Corp. plots station break
Birmingham Business Journal: Birmingham's Fox station up for sale

The company is called New Vision... which bought up some stations last year. Previously, New Vision had bought stations and flipped them, but the company apparently said it wants to own the newly-acquired stations long-term. We'll see.
I've heard mediocre responses on what it's like to work for NV. Birmingham is by far the largest market in which they own a station, so moving up the corporate ladder, at this point, won't take you any higher than market 40.
Also, some NV stations such as WIAT and WJCL (Savannah) are #3 in news ratings. Market rank and ratings, though, are not directly correlated to happiness. I'll be interested to see if NV makes an investment to boost the stations' performances or if the company will just maintain status quo. One positive for WIAT is that, while it's clearly behind its closest competitor, the station has been on a ratings upswing. [ July 17, 2007, 05:19 PM: Message edited by: RollTide98 ]

Did it fly away into the ether when a certain photog helped bust your union in return for being promoted into management?

The NPR station there is looking for a reporter/host.
If any of you frustrated storytellers are looking for a job - the ND there is a super star in the NPR world. (plus you don't have to wear a suit. we're a natural fibers, comfortable shoes kind of crowd.)

That's a loaded question... I can think of being "Boxed" in at at least two of the stations here...
You can tell I check this place out way too much... twelve days since your query...
