Don't know if this has been posted... but pretty cool stuff.

Three pictures: before Katrina, shortly after, 2 years after.

Looks like the safest place to be in a cat 4 is in a 3'+ diameter tree trunk. Wonder what the squirrels were thinking?

I'm a govt meteorologist and was stationed at
the Slidell office for 18 years from 1981 to
1998. Shortly after we arrived, my 7 yr old and
I took a sightseeing trip along the Miss Gulf
Coast. After crossing the Bay St Louis bridge
we started seeing several places that had cleaned
off concrete pads or a set of steps that went
nowhere. The 7 yr old ask why the people poured
the concrete but didn't build their house. I had
to explain to him that they had built their house
but that it had been destroyed by a strong
hurricane (Camille '69). As we drove we continued
to see more clean off pads and steps to nowhere.
I guess the point is...it was fully 12 years after
Camille and a significant number of residents
had not rebuilt. Anybody who is thinking that
the Gulf will recover in 2-3 years is off his/her
rocker.

Very powerful pictures. Thanks.

I agree with WXGeek, it is going to be a LONG recovery. Much longer than most politicians and partisan have the patience for.
