Anybody going to NWA? Is it worth going to the broadcast workshop? And what about Reno? Thanks!

Yup....presenting at the Broadcasters Workshop. For my money NWA is the best conference for operational forecasters in the biz. This is NWA's second trip to Reno...we had a good time last time.

NWA conference is great. Unfortunately, I can't make it this year for a few reasons. I'll be there next year though when it is in ___________.

I think I'm in for this year, and it will be my first conference (AMS, NWA) I hope it's fun, and it will fulfill the seal recert process!

Broadcaster's conference is well worth it. That's on Sunday. Monday night is when the broadcasters all get together & go somewhere for dinner. It's not an "official" event...just anybody who wants to.
Sometimes there's a vendor sales person who might have had enough good time that they pay for a bunch of people's dinners...then go to karaoke, casino, and don't get in until just in time to change shirts & go to their booth.
...and if anybody starts talking about raccoons, be sure to stop and listen, and get ready to split your sides laughing.
I'll see y'all in the central part of the country in 2008.

I'm strongly considering it. My chief goes to the AMS every year. Can anyone give me a comparison to the AMS Broadcast conference ? And how about the tape swap ?

I think their website said that it should be released in early August, so should be soon.

It's looking pretty good for me to be able to go. I've been warming up for karaoke.
As far as answering the previous question, I haven't been to an AMS broadcast conference in several years, but I really do enjoy the NWA conferences. You get the best of both worlds with a whole day focused towards broadcast, and a nice mix of operational stuff that will help keep you up to date on the latest stuff. I miss the free umbrellas and some of the people I met at AMS, but I have had such a blast the past few years at NWA.

Hey Cali...I did the tape swap last year and it was beneficial. They had a ton of people so they split into two groups. Try to have your tape shown earlier in the evening if you can, as people start leaving the longer things run and you may not get as many comments. It seemed like they were rushing through towards the end last year. They also offered a small group critique the following day with some of the more experienced meteorologists and that was cool too.
Has anyone stayed at the conference hotel, Circus Circus? Or does anyone know anything about it? I've read mixed reviews. [ August 03, 2007, 02:20 PM: Message edited by: Foo Fighter ]

If you have not heard Gentry100 sing, that alone is worth the trip to Reno, I kid you not! AWESOME VOICE!

My goodness, except for the motel window scene, that movie was a total waste of my time, and I love the TV series....

I never saw the movie, so it sounds like I didn't miss much. The TV show is top-notch entertainment, IMBO.

The motel scene will have you gasping for air from laughter. The rest of the movie..... um, no. Grins, perhaps...

The Raccoon stories will have to be by proxy, this year. My mom is moving and I can't make the trip. Reno was one of the best attended conferences we had. Something about NWA members and Casinos!

I'm going to keep bothering him until he says yes or tells me to go away.

It's a go! I'm making my reservations now.
The nice lady at Circus Circus said we will be arriving during the Columbus Weekend Festival, sounds like lots of yummy Italian Food. But will it be better than the Hill in St. Louis?
I'm ready to see all my buds and karaoke!

Cloud... you know my door is always open! We just sent #1 daughter off to college, so we have the room.
Someone from the NWA contacted me a while ago about giving a welcome speech at the convention, so I might be going as well.
