Nope, this has nothing to do with weather. Just thought I would throw that out there.
Was a huge Transformer fan as a kid. Would have T-wars in my living room with my brothers.
The special effects these days in movies are beyond imaginable. If you haven't seen the movie, you don't know what you are missing. My wife saw it with me and she loved it. She knew nothing of them before. The whole audience clapped at the end. Can't wait for the sequel....

I had 'em all too...Insecticons, Constructicons (the 6 guys that all came together to form one big thingamabobber), the dinosaur ones...it goes on and on. Yet oddly I didn't think this movie would do well. Now you make me want to see it!

I saved most of mine and their boxes in a large garbage bag. Sold them all on ebay a few years ago. Got $1200 for about 30 total. Not a bad investment, lol!

damn it! spoilers in here... luckily I stopped reading as soon as I realized...
But I am only going to see it because I was told by others of my generation (that generation is the one who took the thirteen year-old brothers to the first movie) that the movie is indeed, good...

Posted this a week or two ago on my blog... but here you go... no spoilers here just an honest review ________________________________________________
was lucky enough to get tickets to the preview last night, so I figure I'd pass on my review... and my best guess on what others may think...
I went into this movie with low expectations.... and was pleasantly surprised. Not that its the best movie by any means..... but Its funny and holds pretty true (at least from what I can remember) to the original.
What I liked best....
-Most Voices hold true to the original cartoon -Great Action Scenes -Plenty of Humor -All the actors seemed to fit their roles well... and the roles were good ones -CG was spectacular
What I liked least.....
-Sometimes there was so much action.... I didn't know who was who... 3 transformers are introduced well.... the others have their name said perhaps once or twice max..... (during some of the fight scenes it's also hard to tell who is who...) -While plenty of the original transformers are in the movie... most look completely different - I always liked Megatron being a gun.... now he's a jet - Humans in the cartoon always played a really small part... in the movie they are the main focus
Overall this movie is aimed at males 13 and up...
99% of boys will love it..... but some may find it a little scary 90% will of Men enjoy it 30% of Women will like it (mostly if they like action... and had brothers growing up)
Overall I give it a B+/A- While the movie was good.... part of that high rating is nostalgic... It was interesting see all of these things I used to love watching as a kid. [ July 08, 2007, 05:23 PM: Message edited by: Lightweight ]

Saw it. Liked it a lot. Some things could have been done (and not done) to make it better. But, basically, Michael Bay did not single handedly ruin a movie this time.
I should have sat about ten rows back, though, so I could see what was going on!

I saw it this weekend and thought it was awesome. Some of the dialog is aimed at a younger audience but the crazy CG action scenes were absolutely amazing. Just a great fun summer movie.

A real FUN movie... It's one you have to see in the theater on the big screen with the rockin sound. I would give it an A... It would receive an A+ if Optimus didn't feel the need to lecture us everytime he opened his mouth!

Man you guys have me all excited to see it. I was already but now I really am. I had tons of these as a kid, still have some of them at my moms house. I first heard about this movie almost four years ago, had a friend in Amarillo that is a TF nut.

It was awesome. I went and saw it by myself last week (wife & kids out of town) and took the kids to see it tonight. Last week, I went into the basement and dug out my original Transformers.
A nice touch was the guy who did the voice of Optimus Prime did it in the movie. There weren't too many robot characters (which could've easily been done given the amount to choose from from the original cartoon series), but it was hard to follow who was who with the Decepticons.
Great lines: "It must be Japanese." (Sam)
Jazz: "You want a piece of me?" Megatron: "No, I want two."
One thing I didn't like: the Laurentian Abyss isn't the deepest part of the ocean in the world. Not accurate (like a bunch of cars that turn into robots is accurate, but I'm just sayin'... ).

Didn't catch that. But it won't matter. Starscream will come back with the troops dig him out of the water, transform him into Galvatron and the fight will be back on.... =)

Question for all of you who have seen it thus far...is it suitable for a 5 year-old, in your opinion?
I'd like to see it, but I'm sure my wife wouldn't...
He's into Star Wars (trying to think of a possible equivalent in terms of what is shown onscreen) and the like.
Side note: Due to a Godzilla marathon on the 4th of July on cable here, now he's wanting to watch more of those movies. Destroyah and King Ghidorah were his favorite enemies. A run out to Blockbuster might be in order soon. ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

Not suitable for a five year-old. The action sequences and designs of the transformers will scare the piss out of him.

Thanks!
That's kind of what I thought. I hadn't done a thorough review of the movie, but this thread reminded me to ask.
Ah well...I'm sure I can wait until it comes out on digital cable. That's just about how I see most movies these days...unless it is with the kids.

My 4 year old is into Star Wars, too. If your 5 year old can handle some of the lightsaber fights (especially the Anakin/Obi-Wan one in "Revenge of the Sith"), he should be OK for the most part. The fight scenes are intense, no doubt, with a lot to try to keep up with. He probably won't catch everything in them, and neither will you.
You might want to schedule a bathroom or popcorn break when Sam's parents are asking him why his door is locked and who he's talking to (when he and his love interest are looking for the glasses and the power is out): otherwise, you may have to explain something you're probably not ready to explain to a 5 year old.
Starscream rescue Megatron? Riiiiiiight. He's going to get the rest of the Decepticons hiding wherever and come back and try to kick some butt, and get b####slapped by Megatron/Galvatron, who will probably be rescued by one of the other Decepticons in hiding.
