Dan says he will be leaving SPC and taking the M-I-C position with NWS Indianapolis starting early September.
Congrats!

why do we go from job to job? It can be for career advancement, or a change of pace, family issues (is IND where he's from or his family, etc), or for a myriad reasons!
All we know, or at least I think, is that he wanted this change! Congrats to him!
If people start dropping from NHC, then we have a problem!
end of comments!
EDIT: except for this. Is a forecaster at a national center higher or lower than a big office MIC position? Also, this is something that I can be educated on... do folks move up from office to office like we move to larger markets? I am sure the MIC position at a "big" office is higher in stature than one in the middle of nowhere tinytown (I won't mention where, but you know what I mean)... but do folks move like that? Educate me! [ July 06, 2007, 10:10 PM: Message edited by: Dontwrapme ]

Dan is a super guy. Good for him. I've met him several times and did an interview with him a few years ago.

I was told recently that certain offices are higher than others for MIC jobs. Most of the higher MIC jobs are at offices in large metro areas or offices that used to be old state forecast offices. Examples would be IND, FWD, MIA, OKC. "Lower" level MIC jobs would be in smaller offices, many used to be WSOs before being spun up to forecast offices. Our MIC just left our office, which is in a major city but used to be just a WSO. He went to a office which used to be a state WFO and still covers most of the state. I ask why and was told it was a promotion.
Of course, there's this whole fight in the NWS now to spin down some offices to lower staffing at night and maybe even go part-time. Who knows were that might be going.

Way to go Dan... Indy area is lucky. I would have loved to have him in my DMA.
Hopefully he will still be at the conferences. ![[Cheers]](graemlins/cheers2.gif) [ July 07, 2007, 05:53 AM: Message edited by: SevereClear ]

Few may remember that Dan once was a TV met in the mid 80's. I'm not sure Dan himself remembers it!
He did weekends at KSN in Wichita for awhile, and I believe jumped directly from there to SPC.

Dan,
Congratulations on coming back to the "real" midwest.
Keep counting those points. When last we spoke, I was in awe of how it's worked for you & it's working for me. (I think it was over that Friday dinner in DSM.)
Look forward to seeing less of you, more often!!! [ July 07, 2007, 09:33 PM: Message edited by: WxGuru ]

I have a feeling I'd be paying my own way again, and in that case I probably won't go. Contract is up this month so I'll see if I can squeak in a conference if I stay here.

Congrats to Dan...he's a helluva guy. I loved his severe weather sessions at AMS...perhaps he'll keep them going even though he's not going to be at SPC anymore.
Good Luck Dan!!

Hi Everybody-
A little birdie told me that this was a topic on MediaLine. I appreciate all the congratulations and good wishes from ALL of you!
The Meteorologist-in-Charge position will be a promotion for me from SPC. It was a good time for a change, and moving to IND puts us between family in WI and OH. It also puts me in the middle of Super Outbreak territory. It also brings me challenges to oversee an office and be part of a local scene to make great things happen in the media, emergency management and political arenas. The surrounding offices are run by super people, and I am looking forward to working with all of them.
As far as the conferences, I may not be at as many. I still will plan to be at the NWA Annual Meetings. Ya know, I have a budget to responsible for now too.
Again, thanks to all of you for your wishes and friendships! DWM
