What's up with the annoying grid on KSN? It's hard to tell where the storms are because of that.

I wish KAKE was streaming.

I think the grid you are seeing is street level mapping. Most of Kansas is setup like a grid. Thats why it is easy to chase out there.

I agree with TVS on WSI Trueview. Nothing beats Fastrac/Vipir when you have a good driver at the wheel.

Thanks for the info BSU. I wish they'd just turn it off. The street level mapping is annoying.

My hat's off to any chasers out there tonight. Chasing wedge tornadoes at night is scary stuff.

You won't be able to watch it on a Mac. WorldNow (KWCH's web host) doesn't support Mac computers.

I'm just living vicariously through this streaming video.

hmmmm, we've had dime sized hail this year in San Bernardino County, does that count for anything?

Thanks Gray Communications! Thanks for being so cheap!

say what you want about these meteorologists in wichita, but when the storms get going, they get on them and handle them as good as anyone. We are lucky to have them and they do a great public service on weekends like this.

So does anyone know the details of KSN's clicker? I know its been talked about, i.e. how large it is. But does anyone know what it is? It almost looks like a tablet PC.

I think it may be a "slave" CPU to their radar. And yes... tablet PC.

Not a bad idea at all!

So I'm guessing its connected via WiFi. I wonder how well that works with wireless IFB and wireless mics.

Good point... We have laptops that don't bother the mics.

No problem. I was just posting as I observed things - one of the 'joys' of streaming links these days...

Most Level II users are not aware that the basic velocity dataset is not dealiased. So a 20kt inbound on the display could actually be a 90kt outbound, and that confusion is what I saw last night. Maybe it was a onetime thing, maybe WSI does have a dealias algorithm and it just wasn't turned on or it failed -- I dunno. GR2AE uses the best dealiaser I've seen, since it incorporates RUC analysis soundings, and even that fails at times. But most other L2 displays I've seen do NOT run the data through a dealias algorithm first.

I did not write it with malice, or try to imply that it meant his coverage stank. If I say something meteorologically incorrect I'd hope someone has the balls to tell me - and it's certainly happened before ;>

r... i have a quick sec to say--
don't worry about it. Im in the baby stages of my career, and this was really a once in a career outbreak. No doubt the amount of hours (and lack of coffee!) played a part. I have A LOT to learn, and a lot of that is through exp. no worries. [Wink]

Looks at that push coming out across the TX/OK panhandles into SW KS. On WV... it almost appears some kind of cyclogenesis (unless the way the clouds are spearding out aloft is fooling me) is taking place now there. This could get UGLY later. I wonder if that new stuff developing along that "line" west of ICT is the next area to get hammered. It almost appears you could draw a line to the supercell in NW OK to the stuff developing west of ICT...

Rotation is getting organized between GBD and HUT. Also rapidily developing rotation it appears just south of Salina. Salina may get something without an official warning out...

hey guys... ready to hit the hay and get ready for what *might* be another severe weather day in KS.

Quickly though- we worked our butts off here tonight, even with almost full staff for over 12 hours. I love this streaming thing (I think, rather. I KNOW its probably going to be the future of our business) but realize you are under a lot more of a lense, especially to your peers and colleagues across the country.

Keep in mind that it is live tv (and live on the web) so if things don't go 100% smooth (which they hardly ever do) its ok- we are human.

Anyway, given everything I think all 3 handled things great. The most important thing is that we try to keep as many viewers safe as possible throughout these warnings.

Now off to bed, SPC has us in mdt for tomorrow, and a lot of it is right over the metro. So... here we go AGAIN!

Have a good night all!

No worries, you guys are doing GREAT! I thought the coverage has gone exceptionally smooth given the crazy circumstances! I was impressed!

Rest up man, looks like it could be another long day ahead for you

Andrew...You guys have been calm and cool under a ton of pressure the past few days...Today may bring more pressure or a bust...With streaming you have hundreds of critics and "consultants" available with a forum for instant feedback...NEVER dwell on the negatives but at the same time accept the information that you receive...Your ND and Chief will help you "sort thru the chaff"...

KSN uses a Philips iPronto Remote Control. It is a system they began to use when they moved to Exploration Place in Downtown Wichita. They moved back to the KSN studios taking this technology back with them. They had to use fiber lines to connect back to the station. The station's cheap owners didnt want to pay for fiber lines. KSN is putting final touches on their new weather center set. KSN had some issues with considering they use the ignite system. It really slowed the news team down majorly. Anita had to use a wireless handheld mic and stand in front of the wall with Dave to report on details of the Greensburg devestation on early Saturday morning. KSN could of done much better if they were not using ignite.

Jay Prater and the KAKE team did the best job in all with multiple storm spoters in contact with the Weather Plex all weekend long durring the coverage. Jay now has multiple cameras all over the state, with the KAKE First Cam on the ground using internet tech. to provide LIVE shots of the tornadoes on the ground. KAKE has the ability to take live phone calls and mix the audio and video from its weather plex. KAKE did the best job. Glen Horn, and Jay Prater did a really good job planning for the weather Plex and developing a network of storm spoters across Kansas. Look for streaming in its future.

thanks guys... I am fortunate to be working with the best here though.. learned so much in the last two days.. prob more than any other time in my short career so far. This outbreak has been truly incredible.

btw... no sweat on any type of comments. It was in the heat of the moment the other night, and I shouldn't have even thought about it during the intense situation. No worries... actually LOTS of worries- don't want a day 4 of this!!!! [Eek!]

Working for a sister Gray station, KAKE also has their cable outlet, shared with WIBW, know as KansasNow 22. It's on pretty much all COX cable outlets in the state. They put thier "streaming" coverage on there.
