It's all about a tv weather guy who doesn't believe in global climate change.
Yea, that's who should be the final say in the matter... a guy who needs hairspray to do his job and makes up words like "thorms" because "thunderstorms" is just to hard to say.

Do you have similar condemnation for the Weather Channel meteorologist who said that any weather-person who denied Anthropogenic Climate Change should have their seal removed, and be discredited?
Just wondering, because that same ad hominem reasoning applies...

I'm unaware the person you speak of, but there's a difference between my criticizing the focus of the OP and this person who is advocating severe punishment for people he disagrees with.

None. But if you were to post an article that was on the site, I'd at least have the stones to comment on the article itself, rather than just blow it off because it was on that site.

I'd like to know who this meteorologist is, as well. But I do know that Al Gore disputed a scientist on the IPCC, and said he should be removed from the IPCC.
All because he didn't buy Gore's illusion.

if you had posted an objective article from an accredited science or news source, the replies would be more civil. but that's never your intent. nothing wrong with an opinion piece, but the replies referencing bible chapters as prophecy rendered the site ridiculous.

Here we go.
Heidi Cullen, Weather Channel. From her blog:
quote: I'd like to take that suggestion a step further. If a meteorologist has an AMS Seal of Approval, which is used to confer legitimacy to TV meteorologists, then meteorologists have a responsibility to truly educate themselves on the science of global warming. (One good resource if you don't have a lot of time is the Pew Center's Climate Change 101.)
Meteorologists are among the few people trained in the sciences who are permitted regular access to our living rooms. And in that sense, they owe it to their audience to distinguish between solid, peer-reviewed science and junk political controversy. If a meteorologist can't speak to the fundamental science of climate change, then maybe the AMS shouldn't give them a Seal of Approval. Clearly, the AMS doesn't agree that global warming can be blamed on cyclical weather patterns. It's like allowing a meteorologist to go on-air and say that hurricanes rotate clockwise and tsunamis are caused by the weather. It's not a political statement...it's just an incorrect statement.
This from her blog. Not from the Freepers. Not from the ExxonMobile Institute for Better Science.
Discuss. [ November 08, 2007, 07:29 PM: Message edited by: Vulcan ]

I think the Weather Channel woman who said AMS seals should be denied for not agreeing with Gore's political agenda (which is exactly what it is) is a fool. She should be roundly criticized for her intolerance and arrogance.

Now about global warming. WOuld it hurt any of us to be a little more aware of what's going on around us? I think if we all did our part to help the environment, no one would eb harmed. Better to err on the side of safe than sorry.

I agree but why should we conserve when the majority of the people talking about global warming (ie Al Gore, hollywood celbs) are not doing it. Al Gore still lives in a energy consuming mantion and hollywood celebs aren't giving up their multi-million dolllar mantions for more energy conserving homes. We should all do our part to help recycle and conserve energy. When the people telling us to do it aren't doing it themselves then I have a problem.

Depends on where you live...I live in an area that has a lot of wind and inversions that don't last long so we don't have bad air quality (plus we don't have a ton of car traffic) Areas such as LA, the southeast...normal weather patterns and lots of traffic lead to bad air days.

For some I guess it's more important to score points by attacking Al Gore.

Terps, I gotta step up for Paper Trail here. He or she posts articles, with the title as the title of the thread. As far as I can see, PT does not change the title of the article to reflect PT's bias, whatever that might be. 2:30, however, does.
That said, I wish I could read this freakin' thread.

Well for the record when I see LA in a cloud of smog then yes...that type of pollution needs to be controlled. My only beef with Al Gore is that he doesn't practice what he preaches. I may be wrong but he talks about controling the gases that cause global warming which lead to the melting of the ice caps etc, etc. and the gases in smog (which need to be controlled) are mostly ozone.

I didn't think you did, I'm curious who are the kneejerk Gore-haters. Is it people that disagree with global warming just because Gore is a democrat? Because if that is the only reason that's pretty stupid.

As I have said before, Gore is more about what nations should do, rather than individuals. His advocacy lies in political action. Others take a more individual approach. Both are necessary, IMO.

Gore is about control and trying to stifle debate. When he made his "flat earth" comments during his lecture on NBC, he showed another sample of his legendary intolerance. The Weather Channel person who wants to deny AMS certification is just clicking her heels for his cause.
