I didn't think that was funny.

Petty. Pouty. Vindictive maybe.

Not really funny.

if it was a stand-alone piece it probably would be funny.

But given the history/context of the problem and given the weak premise of the original attack ad, I just don't find it funny.

I find it a little sad and pouty.

It was funny and what they said about the Daily Show was accurate. A little over the top, though.

All I'll say is that he's a total kiss-a$$...

Once left the station, GM begged him to come back and paid him much more, but he was pretty worthless until the past few months...

It came across as an attempt to out-Daily Show the Daily Show.

It was fine, but flat.

That was ****ing awesome! You know all they did was take the same idea Jon Stewart had against them and flipped against the Daily Show. If you ask me, it's genius & I love and think it should air!

There's an old saying... Never wrestle with a pig. You will both get dirty, and the pig will enjoy it.

The Daily Show will fire back and the gloves -- if they were ever on -- will definitely be off.

I would also like to add that Duane is one hell of a guy.

Fired the news director a week or so ago and she just had her first baby. What a Guy! [Roll Eyes]

The writing was on the wall when she got back...that market is being turned upside-down, both ND's fired in the middle of sweeps, just speaks volumes about upper-management at both shops...

I'm told that the ND resigned on her own.

but you never know. As long as the station loses the image it has, I'm all for it. It really is a good station with good people, truthfully.

That was funny... and if the Daily Show does respond (have they?), it's just more good news for WTWO. Buzz matters.

The mere fact that a promo producer/manager took the time DURING SWEEPS to craft an internal response to add a little humor to the department head meeting makes me question their committment to news!

Then again it is Terre Haute...

They're following the "there's no such thing as bad publicity" theory when it comes to their newscast.

This is typical Nexstar, and there's a reason they're 600+ million in debt. Their tactics are roughly the equivalent of burning the farmhouse to keep warm. I for one would rather get my news from reading tea leaves.

Congratulations on getting out, by the way.

Interesting idea, to comapre national demos to one market's demos.

Pity they don't understand the definition of the word "grammar" before they accuse others of using it poorly.

Grammar refers to the way you write a phrase, not the way you pronounce a word,

Did Stewart mispronounce the "Haute" in Terre Haute? Apparently so. Calling it bad grammar just points out they don't know what the word means.

Perry's big problem was that he forgot the basics of the Nexstar business model on paper, which was, basically, to buy a station in a small market, and use the company's resources to make the station #1, and finally turn a profit.

It's a great idea, at some level, and companies that know what they hell they are doing have pulled it off before. Belo comes to mind, offhand, although I'm not sure how great their track record has been recently, haven't been watching.

But... that's not what Perry did. Mr. Sook was supposed to buy the fix-me up station in one market, actually fix it up, (and efficiently because it was a small market with no competition) and using the profits to buy more.

Instead, he bought 30, so now there's no money to fix anything up anymore. Four or five stations are keeping the whole duct-taped mass together and running.

Well enjoy that, Nexstar. You got your E-peen, and you have a bunch of stations. Too bad the graph for your stock is so steep, the British want to roll cheese down it...

Somebody doesn't realize that the video is not serious, was done for fun, and that "spelling" doesn't rhyme with "Hammer". I think WTWO is well aware of the definition of the word "grammar".

"They"? I wouldn't be surprised if the Daily Show made the return attack ad themselves (or at least found someone to do so).

'Zakly! And don't we all look forward to it!

Now that that stuff is out of the way, would someone (either from the station or from the real world) explain to me why they made the original anti-WTHI attack ad in the first place. Why the need to insult a rival station? That's just unsportsmanlike conduct. And its not like Terra Haute's one road is enough "territory" to fight over. What does a :30 spot of advertising run for out there? $8B? Sheesh.

They made the attack ad because they're an also ran. I'd guess they didn't have anything of substance to promote.
