For those of you who work (or fill in) as morning mets / weathercasters...
...are you responsible for weather only, or do you have "Am Weather / Anchor" responsibilities at the desk through the entire show?
...also, if you don't mind sharing, what's your market size?
I assume that smaller markets generally involve more of the Am Weather / Anchor position, while larger markets are more of a weather only situation, but I'm not sure.
We're market 144, and its a weather/anchor slot.

Just weather here although I wish there was more interaction between me and the anchors. We are market 63-66 I can't ever remember. Lots of folks in the breakfast club thread to answer this one. Maybe drop a note in there.

We're market 183 and it's always been the weather anchor is co-host of the morning show. But I've been doing our show for about 15 years and have been through at least 10 co-anchors.

Market 110-ish we are strictly weather in this market. But I know of a market 95 that has a weather met/anchor.
Depends on station really.

Strictly weather here. 80s mkt.
I was in a low 140s market a few years ago and it was strictly weather there, too. [ October 07, 2007, 04:44 AM: Message edited by: Bob Sakamano ]

Nineties market here.... Strictly weather; but I pitch in on the anchor desk occasionally when one of the anchors is out, mainly for some of the lighter stuff. I like it -- the shift can be a grind sometimes, so it's nice to have something different to do every now and again.

Higher 90s market here and we are just weather. On occasion, we'll get to read a weather-related story before weather... That's about it.

Top-40... mainly just wx-- but I have more of a news background than most, so I've been doing more co-anchoring lately. No hard news, just on the fun stuff.

I'm in the 80's...I will read wx related stories. I never read news stories, but I will sit in on cross talk after the light stuff.

70s market.
I do weather up until the last 10 minutes before the Today Show...then I'm on the desk reading hard news and doing the weather. We went to a single news anchor many months ago...so me joining her on the desk seems not too crazy.
We recently launched a show that follows the last hour of Today...and I pull double duty there as well. I will say that between forecasting, building graphics, reading and re-writing news stories and updating weather plus doing cut-ins makes for a busy day.

Thanks for the replies. It seems that there are fewer weather / co-anchor combinations than I first expected.
.... just trying to get a feel for the hunt for that second job, hopefully in less than a year.

Market 180, and it's a little of everything. Some fluffy anchoring, a little b.s, some interviews, oh, and a little weather. We are definitely a different format than most I have seen. Our show probably wouldn't play as well in a larger market, but it definitely does down here.

I start my new Morning gig on Nov. 1st. I will be doing weather with some "entertainment" stuff. Like viewer interaction with my anchor and stuff like that. I am looking forward to it!

Congrats on the new gig!
I like filling in for our morning guy, because aside from the weather, there are plenty of kickers that are great set ups for asinine responses at 5:45 AM.

my husband does weather and anchors the morningshow in a 90s market. He actually likes it that way--we live in the southwest so sometimes there's not a lot to talk about weather-wise. So anchoring makes his day go faster.
