NEW NEWS DIRECTOR OPENINGS:
WHAM-TV, Rochester, NY…STEVE DAWE is leaving this Newport Television owned ABC affiliate to become Director of Multi-Media Engagement for WXXI-TV, the PBS affiliate in Rochester. Steve’s been the ND here for more than three years, and was the station’s promotion director before that. Before he joined WHAM, he was the ND for WUHF-TV, the FOX affiliate in Rochester.
KIDK-TV, Idaho Falls, ID…this Fisher Broadcasting owned CBS affiliate is looking for a new ND to replace TED DAWSON, who’s held that job since November. Ted had been the Sports Director there before he was promoted to ND. Earlier in his career, Ted anchored sports for two different Los Angeles stations.
NEW NEWS DIRECTORS NAMED:
WNJU-TV, Teterboro, NJ…JOSE MORALES has been named VP/News for the Telemundo o-and-o. He’s been Director of Digital Content for Telemundo Local Media. I assume (I know, that’s dangerous) that he is replacing HUGO BALTA. You’ll remember we told just last month that Hugo had been laid off from his job as ND here.
WSAZ-TV, Charleston/Huntington, WV…congratulations to GROVER TADLOCK who has been promoted to ND for this Gray TV-owned NBC affiliate. Grover is currently the Managing Editor here. His first job was in that market as a part-time photographer. He was promoted to Director of Photography in 2005 and bumped to Managing Editor in 2007. He replaces SCOTT SAXTON who left the station in September to become ND for WECT-TV in Wilmington, NC.

WOAI-TV, San Antonio, TX…AARON RAMEY has left this NBC affiliate after two years as ND. Aaron’s previously been an ND in Louisville and Knoxville. WOAI is owned by Newport Television.
KSPR-TV, Springfield, MO…BRAD BELOTE is returning to KYTV in Springfield as Director of Digital Content. KYTV is owned by Schurz Broadcasting which also operates KSPR. Brad was ND for KSPR for three years.
NEW NEWS DIRECTORS NAMED:
WUSA-TV, Washington, DC…FRED D’AMBROSI becomes the fifth ND in five years for this Gannett-owned CBS affiliate. (His title will be Director of the News and Information Center.) Previously Fred spent 12 years as ND for KFMB-TV in San Diego before leaving in May, and he was the ND for WISN-TV in Milwaukee for seven years. He’s also worked in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Green Bay, and Columbia, MO. At WUSA, he replaces longtime Gannett newsman LANE MICHAELSEN who left in August to become VP/News for NBC’s WTVJ-TV in Miami.
WHP/WLYH-TV, Harrisburg, PA…CRAIG HUME will be the next ND for this Newport TV owned CBS/CW duopoly. Craig’s a former ND in Los Angeles, Chicago, Orlando San Diego, and Las Vegas. He replaces CAROLINE IMLER who is leaving the station to be closer to family in North Carolina.
WHAS-TV, Louisville, KY…MARK NEERMAN is back in the ND office as he’ll take over at this Belo-owned ABC affiliate. Mark’s currently the Assistant ND at NBC’s KNTV in San Jose/San Francisco, but he’s previously been an ND in Las Vegas and Richmond. The move reunites him with GM MARK PIMENTEL, who hired him as ND at WTVR in Richmond. He replaces GENIE GARNER who left last month after two years as ND to take the ND job at KITV in Honolulu.
WNYT-TV, Albany, NY…ERIC HOPPEL has been promoted to ND at this Hubbard-owned NBC affiliate. He’s been the Assistant ND here and replaces PAUL LEWIS who left the station in August after three years as ND. Paul’s now enrolled in a master’s program at Quinnipiac University.
WYIN-TV, Merrilville, IN…RYAN PRIEST has been promoted to ND for this PBS station which airs a nightly newscast. He had been the Assistant ND, and has also worked in Evansville, IN, and Tampa. He replaces TODD HAUER who left the station in August to work in Media Relations for Valparaiso University.
WNCT-TV, Greenville, NC…MARTY VAN HOUSEN will be the next ND for this Media General owned CBS affiliate. Marty had been ND for WTLV/WJXX in Jacksonville, FL, until May, 2008, and previously spent six years as ND for KMOV-TV in St. Louis. Earlier he worked for KABC-TV in Los Angeles. He replaces ADAM HENNING who left last June to take an ND job at WAFF-TV in Huntsville, AL.

KUVS-TV, Sacramento, CA…congratulations to ISABEL GONZALEZ who is being promoted to ND for sister-Univision o-and-o KXLN-TV in Houston. (See below). She’s been the ND here for almost two years.
KHBS/KHOG-TV, Ft. Smith, AR…MIKE COURINGTON has resigned as ND for this Hearst owned ABC affiliate. He’s been the ND here since February 2003, when he was promoted.
NEW NEWS DIRECTOR NAMED:
KXLN-TV, Houston, TX…ISABEL GONZALEZ has been named ND for this Univision o-and-o. As we mentioned above, she has been the ND for sister-Univision o-and-o KUVS-TV in Sacramento. She replaces REY CHAVEZ who left the station in June after just more than one year as ND.
Two other notes. HUGO BALTA, ND for Telemundo’s WNJU-TV in Teterboro, NJ (the New York market) was laid off this week as part of NBC/Universal cutbacks. I am assuming (always dangerous) that he is not being replaced, so I have NOT listed that as an opening.
And please note that we have removed WDIV-TV in Detroit from the list of open ND positions. DEBORAH COLLURA, the VP/News for station owner Post-Newsweek, has been serving as ND here since BOB ELLIS was promoted to GM for the company’s WJXT-TV in Jacksonville. Deb tells me she’ll continue to do both jobs until at least the first of the year when the situation will be re-evalutated.

WPXI-TV, Pittsburgh, PA…as we told you in an UPDATE earlier this week, CORRIE HARDING is leaving this NBC affiliate after 4 1/2 years as ND. Both Corrie and GM RAY CARTER say it was a mutual decision. Carter, a former ND in Atlanta and Salt Lake City, will oversee the newsroom, with some help from MIKE DREADEN, the Managing Editor at sister-Cox station WSB-TV in Atlanta, until the search for a new news director is completed.
WWAY-TV, Wilmington, NC…veteran newsman PAUL PAOLICELLI has left this Morris-Multimedia owned ABC affiliate after two years as ND. Paul’s also been a news director in Houston, Orlando, and for the Ohio News Network, and has worked as the Washington Bureau Chief for the NBC o-and-os, and also worked in Buffalo. He’s also an author, having penned two books. (And, as of this writing, his well-written blog is still available on the station’s website!)
NEW NEWS DIRECTORS NAMED:
WMBB-TV, Panama City, FL…we’re beyond late in reporting the promotion of HEATHER KRETZER to ND here. Heather was named interim ND last January and given the position in April. She replaces long-time WMBB ND LARCHE HARDY who left the station. WMBB is owned by Hoak Media and is an ABC affiliate.

WFTX-TV, Ft. Myers, FL…FRANK VERDEL has left this Journal Broadcasting owned FOX affiliate after just seven months as ND. His replacement will be the fifth ND since December, 2003.
WBBJ-TV, Jackson, TN…BRAD GRANTHAM is leaving this ABC affiliate after three years as news director. He and his wife are moving back to Louisiana to be closer to their families. (We told you a few months ago that Brad and his wife ANGIE had a stillborn baby this summer.) WBBJ is owned by Bahakel Communications.
NEW NEWS DIRECTORS NAMED:
WOOD-TV, Grand Rapids, MI…REBECCA SAPAKIE returns to West Michigan as ND for this LIN-owned NBC affiliate. She worked here for seven years earlier in her career, eventually becoming Assistant News Director before leaving to become Senior Web Producer for WDAF-TV in Kansas City three years ago. Rebecca replaces PATTI McGETTIGAN who was promoted two months ago to become ND for sister-LIN station WISH-TV, the CBS affiliate in Indianapolis. Patti had been the ND in Grand Rapids for eight years.
KBCI-TV, Boise, ID…JULIE WEINDEL returns to the ND chair as she moves west to this Fisher-owned CBS affiliate. Julie’s a former ND at WHIO-TV in Dayton who’s owned her own media business since leaving WHIO more than two years ago. Julie tells me she and her husband have wanted to move to the Rockies. At KBCI, she replaces YVONNE SIMONS who left in July to become the Assistant ND at WBTV in Charlotte. Julie becomes the sixth ND here in seven years.
WBNG-TV, Binghamton, NY…CANDACE CHAPMAN has been promoted to ND for this Granite-owned CBS affiliate. She’s been the EP there as well as the anchor of the 6:00 news. Candace has also worked in Lawton, OK, and Columbia, MO. Her promotion to ND allows GREG CATLIN to concentrate on his GM duties here. Greg has been doing both jobs since being promoted to GM earlier this year.

WHIT JOHNSON is named correspondent for CBS Newspath based in Washington DC. Whit will also contribute to CBS News broadcasts across the division. Whit leaves KSL TV in Salt Lake City where he was the 6:30pm weeknight co-anchor and reporter. He and his wife, Andrea Fujii, live in Washington DC.
BOB SELLERS, known nationally for his work on Fox News Channel and CNBC, and most recently as a morning anchor at WTTG in Washington DC, has been named a primary anchor for WSMV in Nashville.
DUCIS RODGERS makes a move to anchor for ESPN News. Ducis most recently was the primary sports anchor for WCBS in New York.
ANDREA FUJII joins the reporting team of WJZ in Baltimore. She was the weekend evening co-anchor at KSTU in Salt Lake City. Andrea has relocated with her husband, Whit Johnson.
BRETT CUMMINS returns to Little Rock and KARK to forecast the weeknight weather. Brett was the chief meteorologist with WVLA in Baton Rouge.
AMBER SULLINS joins KNXV in Phoenix as morning meteorologist. Previously, she was the morning and noon forecaster for KVIA in El Paso. Amber is a Valley "native" and a graduate of the University of Arizona.
KATISHIA COSLEY is promoted to weekend evening anchor at KIAH in Houston. Katishia has been a general assignment reporter for the station.
JONATHAN MARTIN is promoted to Saturday morning co-anchor at WSMV in Nashville. Jonathan is currently a weekday reporter for the station.
SHEINELLE JONES renews her agreement with WTXF in Philadelphia as weekday morning anchor.
AMA DAETZ is going home to California to report and fill-in anchor for KTXL, the Tribune station in Sacramento. Most recently, Ama was at WDIV in Detroit.
MARTIN BARTLETT moves to Austin for KVUE to be the new political reporter. He stays in the state, but leaves KVIA in El Paso where he was a reporter.
ANGIE GOFF aka Oh My Goff!, aka OMG, takes on additional duties on the morning show at WUSA in DC while continuing her traffic gig.

CARA CAPUANO returns to ESPN as a reporter, anchor/host and play-by-play announcer for the ESPN family of networks. Based in Charlotte, Cara will be heavily involved with the network's new Southeastern Conference package on ESPNU and ESPN Regional Television. Previously, Cara spent four years in a similar role at FSN Northwest, covering all things Seattle sports. Before the move to Seattle, The University of California graduate had a stint at ESPN as an anchor and play-by-play announcer.
CASSIDY HUBBARTH will be joining Host Charles Davis and Analysts Randy Cross & David Pollack on FSN South’s SEC Gridiron LIVE’s. Cassidy will be handling the Social Media Component, reporting from both the studio and live from games. Cassidy has served as a reporter for the Big Ten Network and has also hosted and reported shows for Intersport’s made-for-mobile original sports programming for Sprint Exclusive Entertainment.
RHETT (LEWIS) KLEINSCHMIDT heads to WHDH-TV in Boston as a sports reporter and anchor. Rhett was previously a sports reporter and producer at WVUE-TV in his hometown, New Orleans and the Sports Director at KLBK-TV in Lubbock, Texas.
KATHERINE WHALEY is returning home to Houston. Starting in September, Katherine will be working as a Morning Traffic Anchor/GA Reporter for “Good Day Houston” on KHOU-TV. For the past year, Katherine was the Weekend Morning Anchor/Weathercaster/General Assignment Reporter at KVBC-TV in Las Vegas. Katherine is a 2004 graduate of Rice University and is currently working towards her Broadcast Meteorology Degree at Mississippi State University.

NEW NEWS DIRECTOR OPENINGS:
WPIX-TV, New York City, NY...we reported this change in the number one market to you
earlier this week in an emailed UPDATE. KAREN SCOTT is leaving this Tribune-
owned station after ten years as ND and 16 years at the station. Today was
her last day, and that departure comes just more than a week before the station
launches a new 6:30 PM newscast.
WSAZ-TV, Huntington, WV...SCOTT SAXTON announced today he's leaving this NBC affiliate
to become ND for Raycom's WECT-TV in Wilmington, NC (more on that below.)
Scott's been the ND here since 2006 when he was promoted from Assistant ND.
WSAZ is owned by Gray Television.
KRNV-TV, Reno, NV...KIRK FROSDICK has left this NBC affiliate after about 15 months
as ND. Kirk's a long time Reno newsman who had been the Assignment Manager
here before he was promoted to ND. KRNV is owned by Sunbelt Communications.
NEW NEWS DIRECTORS NAMED:
KGUN-TV, Tucson, AZ...he's BACK! FORREST CARR returns to this Journal owned ABC affiliate
for his second stint as ND here, a job he held from until March, 2001. Since
then, he's been an ND in Tampa, Ft. Myers and Albuquerque. He replaces LENA
SADIWSKYJ who left the station last month after more than three years as ND.
WECT-TV, Wilmington, NC...SCOTT SAXTON is the next ND for this Raycom-owned NBC affiliate.
As noted above, Scott has been ND for WSAZ-TV in Huntington, WV for the past three
years. At WECT he replaces RAEFORD BROWN who left the station in July after nine
years as ND.
KDLT-TV, Sioux Falls, SD...the revolving door continues to spin at the Red River Broadcasting
owned NBC affiliate. PAUL HEINERT has been promoted to ND. He had been a reporter.
Paul replaces SETH OELTJENBRUNS who left after less than a year as ND. Paul's the
fourth ND in less than two years, and, if my figures are correct (and I'm not great
with big numbers) he is the EIGHTH news director here in eight years.
KTVZ-TV, Bend, OR...congratulations to LEE ANDERSON who is giving up his role as anchor to
become the ND for this News Press & Gazette Broadcasting owned NBC affiliate.
Lee's worked at the station since 1997 in a variety of anchor roles, including a
stint as ND/anchor that ended in 2007.

for this Belo-owned NBC affiliate. The station's news release says the goal is to
produce compelling local programming. Mary's been ND here for more than four years

in Miami and in Tallahassee.
WPEC-TV, West Palm Beach, FL...DAVE CHRISTOPHER has left the Freedom Broadcasting-owned

KVBC-TV, Las Vegas, NV...we alerted you to this surprising move in a mid-week emailed
UPDATE. BOB STOLDAL, longtime ND of cross-town rival KLAS-TV, has been named
Executive Vice President/News for this Sunbelt Communications owned NBC affiliate.
He'll also manage and coordinate the news operations of all the Sunbelt stations.
Bob retired as VP/News of KLAS in 2008, ending a long career with that station,
which began in 1967. He did spend a few years as ND of sister-Landmark station
WTVF-TV in Nashville. Bob's a native Nevadan and an expert in the history of
Las Vegas. He replaces DEBORAH CLAYTON who left KVBC last month after almost
two years as ND, and spent many more years than that working at the station.
KTEN-TV, Denison, TX...we told you last week that veteran newsman CRAIG MARRS had been
named GM of this NBC affiliate. We didn't know that he'll also been assuming
the ND duties, at least for now. So we're removing this from our list of
openings. KTEN is owned by Lockwood Broadcast Group.
Also this week, DAN GARCIA's job as ND of KAUZ-TV in Wichita Falls, TX, was eliminated
after the station's owned signed a joint sales and shareds services agrement with the
owners of KSWO-TV in Lawton, OK.

KOBI-TV, Medford, OR...JULIE AKINS returns to Medford as the next ND for this NBC
affiliate. Earlier in her career she was the ND at KDRV-TV in Medford.
She's also been an ND in Las Vegas and Fresno At KOBI, she replaces
BILL KELLY who left the station earlier this year to resume his career
as an on-air meteorologist.

KTEN-TV, Denison, TX...this Lockwood Broadcasting owned NBC station is advertising for
a new ND. STEVE KORIOTH has been the ND here for almost four years. He'd
previously worked in Huntsville, Tucson, Dallas and Chicago.
NEW NEWS DIRECTORS NAMED:
KPTV/KPDX, Portland, OR...COREY HANSON has been promoted to News Director for this Meredith
Broadcasting owned FOX/MyNetworkTV affiliate. She's been the EP of Special Projects,
and has also worked as EP and Creative Services Director there. Corey replaces
PATRICK McCREERY who was promoted to GM last October.
WMAR-TV, Baltimore, MD...KELLY GROFT will be the next ND for this Scripps' owned ABC affiliate.
She's currently the Assistant ND here and has been at the station almost ten years
in a variety of roles, including producer, Executive Producer, and Ass't. ND.
She replaces PEGGY PHILLIP who is moving to another Scripps station after one year
as ND here. More on that in the next entry. (And apologies to Kelly, whose last name
I misspelled in an emailed ND List UPDATE earlier this week.)
KSHB-TV, Kansas City, MO...as noted above, PEGGY PHILLIP is moving from Scripps' WMAR-TV in
Baltimore to become ND for this Scripps-owned NBC affiliate. The move allows her
to be closer to her parents in South Dakota. In addition to one year as ND in
Baltimore, Peggy's also been an ND in Memphis, Syracuse, and Tulsa. She's also
worked in Reno, Miami, Boston and Chicago. At KSHB, Peggy replaces RICK ILER who
left the station in March after almost a year and a half as ND.

ELIZABETH RIES IS PROMOTED TO HOST OF TWIN CITIES LIVE AT ABC AFFILIATE KSTP IN MINNEAPOLIS. Elizabeth joined the television station in 2008 as a reporter and fill-in anchor after working at the ABC affiliate in Green Bay. Elizabeth is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin.

become VP-Information Director of another Gannett-owned ABC station, KXTV in
Sacramento (more on that below). Tim has been ND here since July, 2004, and
previously had been the ND for WTVJ-TV in Miami. He's also worked in Kansas
City, Decatur, IL, Kalamazoo, MI, and Columbia, MO.
WGNO/WNOL-TV, New Orleans, LA...BOB NOONAN is leaving this Tribune-owned ABC/CW affiliate
to become the Assistant ND for sorta-sister station WREG-TV in Memphis. (WREG,
the CBS affiliate in Memphis, is operated by LocalTV LLC, which has a
shared services arrangement with Tribune.) Back to Bob: he's been the ND
here February, 2004. More on this opportunity in the paid ad below.
