Matt Makens is heading home to Colorado. After 3 years as the Weekend Meteorologist at WFTV in Orlando, the Castle Rock native will be joining the weather staff at McGraw-Hill's KMGH, the ABC affiliate in Denver. Makens was the 12th person in the country to earn the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation by the American Meteorological Society, and he'll begin putting those forecasting skills to use in Denver in December.

Erica Byfield is set to join the reporting staff at Cox Broadcasting's ABC powerhouse in Atlanta, WSB. Byfield, who speaks fluent Spanish, spent the last three years reporting at KMOV in St. Louis, where she won a Mid America Emmy in 2009; and

New News Directors Named:

WXMI-TV, Grand Rapids, MI...KERRI CAVANAUGH will be the next ND for this FOX affiliate. Kerri most recently was ND for WSFL-TV in Ft. Lauderdale/Miami, which shut down its news operation recently. The station produced a morning show in conjunction with the Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel. WXMI, WSFL, and The Sun-Sentinel all are owned by Tribune. Earlier, Kerri spent more than ten years with WFTS-TV in Tampa, and also worked in West Palm Beach and Tuscaloosa, AL. At WXMI, she replaces TIM DYE, the only ND in WXMI's history, who became ND for WXYZ-TV in Detroit in July.

KIEM-TV, Eureka, CA...BETSY LAMBERT is the new ND and anchor for this NBC affiliate. She's been a reporter in Bakersfield, has worked as a producer in Salt LAke City, and began her career as a reporter in Idaho Falls, ID. She replaces LESLIE BUCHANAN who left (after two years as ND) to spend more time with her family and her one year old son. KIEM is owned by Pollack/Belz Communications.

JOSH RUBENSTEIN has been promoted to chief meteorologist for KCBS/KCAL in Los Angeles and is now morning meteorologist for the KCBS 5-7am and 11am broadcasts.

GINGER ALLEN becomes the senior investigative reporter for KTVT in Dallas. Ginger has been with KTVT for 11 years and has held anchor and reporter duties for the station.

KORI CHAMBERS' role at WFLD has been expanded to include anchoring the new 4:30am news and "Good Day Chicago" from 6-7am. He will continue to anchor the 5-6am hour of "Good Day" as well.

OREN LIEBERMANN will join CBS 3 (KYW-TV) and the CW Philly's (WPSG-TV) Eyewitness News team as a general assignment reporter beginning September 27th. Oren just left WAVY in Norfolk where he was a general assignment reporter for the past three years.

CAYLE THOMPSON will join the news team with WINK in Ft. Myers as the new weekday anchor and reporter. He leaves KAKE in Wichita where he was the weekend morning anchor and reporter.

WJHL-TV, Johnson City, TN...JOHN SOARES is the new ND here. John is on the faculty at Cal State Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo, CA, where he also works at KSBY-TV as an anchor and reporter. According to the email sent to the staff at WJHL, John has both a law degree and a masters from Emerson University and once worked as a stone mason. He replaces NEAL BOLING who left the station in January to become Executive ND for Content and Promotion for KHQ-TV in Spokane, WA. Neal was ND for this Media General owned CBS affiliate for two years.

KIVI-TV, Boise, ID...TAUNA LANGE returns home to her native Idaho as ND for this Journal Broadcasting owned ABC affiliate. Tauna most recently was ND at XETV in San Diego, a job she left last month. She's also been an ND in Honolulu and Albuquerque, but began her career as a reporter in Idaho Falls. She's also worked in Portland, OR. At KIVI, she replaces ROBBY MESSER who left the station in May after 16 months as the ND here to become a morning EP for KOB-TV in Albuquerque.

KVLY/KXJB-TV, Fargo, ND...veteran newsman GRIFF POTTER will be the next ND for this Hoak Media duopoly. Griff's been an ND in Paducah, KY, and Quad Cities, IL, an assistant ND in Milwaukee, and an EP or producer in Nashville, Cincinnati, Grand Rapids, Detroit, Kansas City, and Huntsville, AL. He's also worked in Toledo. At KVLY/KXJB, he replaces JEREMIAH MOERKE who is stepping aside as ND but will stay at the station in a yet-to-be-determined role.

WGXA-TV, Macon, GA...GEORGE JOBIN has rejoined this Frontier Broadcasting owned FOX affiliate as ND. He worked at the station from 1992-2001, first in sports, then as Assignment Editor and EP, and worked his way to Station Manager. He also was GM for WMGT-TV in Macon. He replaces ALEXIA RIDLEY who left the station in May.

WRBL-TV, Columbus, GA...STEVE KORIOTH has been named ND for this Media General owned CBS affiliate. Steve most recently spent a short time as EP and later Assistant ND for WKOW-TV in Madison, WI, and spent six years as ND for KTEN-TV in Dennison, TX. He's also worked in Huntsville, AL, Tucson, Dallas and Chicago. At WRBL, he replaces CHRISTINE TANAKA who left the station last month for a new job at Media General's station in Columbus, OH, after four years as ND here.

WZTV, Nashville, TN...this long-standing opening has been filled as ROBERTA PETTERSON has been named ND. Roberta previously worked in Pittsburgh as the Assistant ND and EP at WTAE-TV and has also worked at WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh and in Tulsa. KCRG-TV, Cedar Rapids, IA...JULIE SEEBOLD has left this Cedar Rapids Gazette owned ABC affiliate for a new job, but she won't have to move very far. She's joining the staff at Frank N. Magid Associates as a consultant. Julie was the ND here for just over a year. She'd been an EP and a producer there before her promotion to ND, and began her career as a reporter/photographer in Mason City, IA.

WXYZ-TV, Detroit, MI...as mentioned above, and as we reported to you earlier this week, TIM DYE has been named ND here. Tim's a Michigan native, and has worked in Grand Rapids, MI, for the last 17 years, first as an EP (and later Assistant ND) at WOOD-TV (his second stint at that NBC affiliate) and later as the first ND for Tribune's FOX affiliate, WXMI-TV. This move reunites him with WXYZ's new GM, ED FERNANDEZ: they had worked together at WXMI. Tim has also worked in Saginaw (his home town). Full disclosure: I hired Tim at WOOD-TV, and we remain friends. He's a solid newsman, a terrific individual, and I'm delighted for him. At WXYZ, he replaces ANDREA PARQUET-TAYLOR who left the station last September after more than five years as ND for this Scripps-owned ABC affiliate.

WMDT-TV, Salisbury, MD...SARAH TRUITT has been promoted to ND for this ABC affiliate. She's been at the station for seven years, working her way up from producer to EP/Assistant ND. She replaces DAWN MITCHELL who died in late April after suffering a stroke.

John's been the ND for WBNS (a CBS affiliate) for eleven years, previously was an ND in Phoenix, and has also worked in San Diego, Norfolk, and Portland, OR. At WTHR, he replaces another former ND, JIM TELLUS, who died last March after a massive heart attack.

WGXA-TV, Macon, GA...is advertising for a new news director. My records show ALEXIA RIDLEY had been the ND there for the past five years. WGXA-TV is a FOX affiliate, and is owned by Frontier Broadcast Holdings LLC. KARLA REDDITTE moves to WAFF in Huntsville, Alabama. Redditte will report and anchor for the NBC station. Karla comes from Savannah, Georgia where she was an AM Anchor/Reporter for WTOC. The Award-winning Redditte also worked at WLOX in Biloxi, Mississippi and KOMU in Columbia, Missouri.

GEOFF TYLER is the newest member of the KMTV news team. Tyler will report for the CBS affiliate in Omaha, Nebraska. Tyler last worked for KMID in Midland, Texas and also KHGI in Kearney, Nebraska and KAUN in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

NEW NEWS DIRECTORS NAMED:

WAVE-TV, Louisville, KY...KATHY HOSTETTER will be the next ND for this Raycom-owned NBC affiliate. Kathy is currently the ND for LIN'S WAVY-TV in Norfolk, and earlier had been an ND in Ft. Wayne, IN. She's from Indiana originally and she'll be closer to family. Kathy's also worked in Indianapolis, Grand Rapids, MI, and San Jose/San Francisco, CA. Kathy replaces LEE ELDRIDGE who left the station earlier this year after 3+ years as news director.

WMBF-TV, Myrtle Beach, SC...another Raycom-owned NBC affiliate, another new ND. SARAH MILES has been the EP/Acting ND at Raycom's WAVE-TV in Louisville. She's also worked in Evansville and Peoria. She replaces MATT MILLER who was promoted to ND for Raycom's WXIX-TV in Cincinnati last month.

WAVY-TV, Norfolk, VA...as mentioned above, KATHY HOSTETTER is leaving this LIN-owned NBC affiliate to become ND for WAVE-TV in Louisville. Kathy's been the ND here for more than four years.

NEW NEWS DIRECTOR NAMED:

WTIC-TV, Hartford, CT...we first told you that COLEEN MARREN was returning to this Tribune-owned FOX Affiliate in an UDPATE earlier this week. WTIC is the station where Coleen held her first ND job in the early 90's, followed by news director jobs in Milwaukee, Boston, and Pittsburgh, where she's been the ND for CBS o-and-o KDKA-TV since last summer. Coleen still has family and friends in the Hartford area. At WTIC, she replaces BOB ROCKSTROH who left the station earlier this year after four years as ND.

NEW NEWS DIRECTOR OPENING:

KDKA-TV, Pittsburgh, PA...as reported above, COLEEN MARREN is leaving this CBS o-and-o to become ND at WTIC-TV in Hartford. She's been the ND here since last June.

TY SHESKY takes over as Chief Meteorologist at WTVO in Rockford, Illinois. Shesky, who holds a CBM, AMS and NWA seal; will forecast the weather for the evening newscasts at the ABC station and on WQRF Fox. Ty previously worked as a weekend meteorologist at KOB in Albuquerque, New Mexico; KKTV in Colorado Springs, Colorado; and KVIA in El Paso, Texas.

JULIE TAM moves to Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas; where she becomes the newest member of the KXAS newsroom. The Award-winning Tam will report for the NBC O&O in Market 5. Julie comes from a 4-year stint as Anchor/Reporter at WDRB Fox in Louisville, Kentucky. She also worked at KLTV in Tyler, Texas.

News 12 Bronx/Brooklyn...LEESA DILLON has resigned as General Manager/News Director for this Cablevision owned all news station. I'm told she plans to return to Las Vegas and leave the TV business. She's been the GM/ND here since January, 2008.

WMBF-TV, Myrtle Beach, SC...we first told you about this opening last week, so it's sorta/kinda new. We listed it again as new for two reasons: I mistakenly listed it as a Fox station. It is an NBC affiliate. And we also want to call attention to their ad below which tells you more about this opportunity. Please note they hope to have someone in place by the May rating period.

NEW NEWS DIRECTORS NAMED:

WGBO-TV, Chicago, IL...we also told you last week that this position had been filled, but we were missing a very important fact. The name. Thanks to two readers who answered our plea, we can now tell you that MARISOL SEDA is the new ND for this Univision station. She moves to Chicago from Puerto Rico. I'm understand she has a background in producing and investigative reporting.

One other correction from last week. We told you that WOWK-TV ND LEEZA GLAZIER was moving to Jacksonville as a morning EP. We (and by that I mean me) screwed up her new station: She's going to work at WTEV/WAWS. Apologies to all.
